Plain-Chant for America
A concert affirming justice and freedom on the eve of the Democratic National Convention.
On Sunday, August 18th at 4 pm, New Rhythm Arts Collaborative presents a concert at University Church, 5655 S University Ave, Chicago, IL. The concert is free, although donations to support continued programming are greatly appreciated. More information can be found at https://newrhythmarts.org/plainchant.
The concert features classical compositions that affirm justice and freedom. These values are important to the integrity of our nation. Two major works are represented by pivotal American composers. William Grant Still composed music for “Plain-Chant for America” to a poem by Katherine Garrison Chapin, which premiered in 1941. It decries fascism and nationalism that led to the second World War.
